Del and I shared a similar sense of humor, and he definitely "got" me, and for that I will always appreciate his friendship. That's an experience that I can never forget, and may his memory be eternal. I was so sad to hear about the loss of a man who was like a dad to me for part of my childhood. He was always so friendly and never let you leave without a chuckle or the very least a smile.
I'm so blessed that I had the chance to know him. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers through this rough period. Love, Kelly Killer. Stumbling around to find the words to express what this man meant to me.
Not only as a boss but a mentor in life. I think one of the best compliments you can give a man is to say he is a "Man of character". All of mankind can learn valuable lesson's from his life. My wife and I are expecting our daughter in Oct and every day , Del would check on all of us. I sent him a short message on Father's Day and he replied "You know you are a Father too".
It makes me proud to say that I am ready to be the best one I can be because of the lessons I learned from Del Cockrell. It seems like yesterday that I was a student sitting in his office after hearing that I had lost my best friend.
Del looked at me and said "This too shall pass. You stay the course young man". I did Mr. C and I am blessed to have had you in my corner. Janice and family I was so sorry to hear about your loss. There are many pleasant memories of our highschool years. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Dear Cockrell family, I was surprised and saddened to hear of Del's passing. I loved him very much as a boss and mentor. Honestly I don't think Ive ever known anyone to care about their employees or students more than Del did. I will miss his sense of humor and twinkling eyes, and will take all of the lessons that he taught me and do my best to make him proud.
Please let me know if there is anything that I can ever do for you and your family. I wanted you all to know how special Dell was. Our conversations always were about the size of the fishes we had or what we were going to stock the ponds with, etc. Dell's fish stories were always better than mine. Of course I always told the truth about our fish catches -- I'm not too sure about his fish stories! But the most important thought I have about your dad was that he was the most ethical, "do things by the book" type individual I have met.
He believed strongly and would take a stand for what he thought was right and never would take the easy way out of a situation. I had a great deal of respect for him and his school. My condolences to the Cockrell family. Dell was special and will be missed by all. Thinking of you, Mr. Don't think we'll ever stop celebrating this day — two years ago today, Texas Engineer John Goodenough received a life-changing phone call Help us ProtectTexasTogether and go take a test, From the recommendation of Thanks to everyone who joined us this weekend for our Class of Tailgate!
